After graduating from Brighton University with a degree in art, Alison Lapper began creating a body of work which deals with the themes of beauty and disability. Can disability be beautiful? Can it evoke more than revulsion, pity or sympathy? I am showing that it can, that there is beauty in everything.

‘Lesbian Mountains in Love’ is a projection of two mountains side-by-side: Mount Rainier in Washington State and El Popo just outside Mexico City. Depicted in real time, they speak to each other in private, loving tones: “Will you remember to watch for the full moon?”; “Every single time.” Before tectonic movement thrust them upward into mountains some 150 million years ago and separated them, before politico-linguistic boundaries further distanced them, they were once of the same landmass. Now they yearn for reunion in a future Pangea. The stillness of the frames—quiet but for occasional wind blowing snow off the summits, subtle climatic variations, and cloud movement—bespeaks the vastness of geologic (rather than historic or even archaeological) time, and belies the lovers’ task: erosion will surely decimate them before they converge. 4’34” gaps of silence—an eternity for the contemporary art viewer— separate seven segments of subtitled dialogue appropriated from the seven tragi-romances of novelist Nicholas Sparks’ complete works as of 2008: ‘The Notebook,’ ‘Message in a Bottle,’ ‘A Walk to Remember,’ ‘Nights in Rodanthe,’ ‘At First Sight,’ ‘Dear John’ and ‘The Choice.’

Re: Hot girl at Babes - w4w - 27 (Babes Of Carytown)
I think this post is about me, but I’m not sure. I wore my cowboy hat to Babe’s two weekends ago, and I dance ridiculous all the time. My name’s not Denny though, but it’s close. Can you give me anymore hints about what I was wearing or what I looked like that would help confirm or deny?
In case this is to me:
When you saw me on the dance floor, you probably just didn’t notice your heart failure because the electricity from my dancing shocked your chest like a defibrillator. But really, I know I made your heart stop. Don’t worry, if I make you breathless, I’m first aid certified and can give you CPR.
My friend probably did shout my name but only because she was so impressed. She was shouting for more heel, toe. I call it awesomeness, but if you need a reason for my spaziness, I wrote a haiku to explain:
Thanks for your concern.
Dance floor is made of lava.
Can’t let my feet burn.
So mystery lady, I danced at Babe’s last night. Where were you? Too shy to say hi?
Well, put on your spurs and boot, scoot my way. Just be careful when you come up to me because I can’t be held accountable for my flailing arms and legs.
One time I saw you on the dancefloor and I wanted to call 911. Not for my dying heart, but for your seizure. I know your name is Denny, I heard your friend calling out at you, or maybe I misheard - probably requesting you to stop. I wasn’t embarrassed, I’d love to seize with you and your cowboy hat sometime. If I see you next week, I made you this haiku:
Denny, Cowboy hat
Seizing away on the floor
I want to fuck you (is this coming on too strong?)
I’d buy you a drink, but you’d spill it. So you and your fauxhawk should mosey over my way sometime, just don’t knock out too many folks on your way. I’d feel honored. I wish I had the courage to make a fool of myself like you do.
So if you ever come to a stop, I’d like to buy you some Denny’s…but I’m sure you get that a lot.
I asked around about you, seems your ego is well known, but I mean, I don’t blame you and your epiletic ways. I’ll tell Babe’s to keep the lights to a minimum just incase this really is a problem.
One day I’ll grow up, I’ll be a beautiful woman.
One day I’ll grow up, I’ll be a beautiful girl.
One day I’ll grow up, I’ll be a beautiful woman.
One day I’ll grow up, I’ll be a beautiful girl.
But for today I am a child, for today I am a boy.
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy.
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy.
One day I’ll grow up, I’ll feel the power in me.
One day I’ll grow up, of this I’m sure.
One day I’ll grow up, I know whom within me.
One day I’ll grow up, feel it full and pure.
But for today I am a child, for today I am a boy.
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy.
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy.
Little L the Go-go - w4w - 22 (Boulder/ Denver)
I met you while we were working, on the smoker’s patio in Boulder.
You needed my services someday, so we had a friendly chat and exchanged information.
I saw you work. You awed the audience. Had the men reeling, acting like apes beating their chest to gain your attention.
They weren’t the only ones awestruck.
You invited me to your next gig the following weekend, and again you amazed me. Even used your connections to get me VIP.
Little L, you are vibrant. So full of life. I met anyone with such down-to-earth, chill attitude that is as gorgeous as you are (and knows it, you rock that stage girl!) I can’t get your coy smile out of my dreams.
I thought I would give this a shot. You are the first woman I’ve ever felt this way before.
If you want to keep it professional, I understand. I just had to let you know, you’ll always have a fan in me.

Last summer I was working as an assistant wedding photographer in California during the brief period when gay couples could marry there. While working a wedding at the San Fransisco City Hall, I watched two old men in tuxedos help each other up the stairs in order to finally get married after over 30 years together.
According to Will, America isn’t following the meaning or spirit of the last line in the Pledge that says ‘with liberty and justice for all.’ Will says that line is not being applied to people in the gay and lesbian community because they do not enjoy the same rights or liberties as people who are not gay.
